Robinhood has announced a significant expansion of its product offerings, introducing stock tokens and a new Layer 2 blockchain, alongside broadening its crypto suite with perpetual futures and staking capabilities in the EU and US markets. These developments, revealed at “Robinhood Presents: To Catch a Token” in Cannes, France, signal a strategic push to simplify and enhance global investment accessibility.
“Our latest offerings lay the groundwork for crypto to become the backbone of the global financial system,” stated Robinhood Chairman and CEO, Vlad Tenev.
Tokenization and a Dedicated Layer 2 Blockchain
Robinhood has launched US stock and ETF tokens for eligible customers in the EU. This new feature, “Robinhood Stock Tokens,” provides exposure to US equities with zero commissions or added spreads from Robinhood (though other fees may apply). These tokens also support dividend payments and offer 24/5 trading access. This transition transforms Robinhood’s European application from a crypto-only platform into a comprehensive investment app, powered by cryptocurrency.
European users will initially have access to over 200 US stock and ETF tokens, with dividend payments directly credited within the app.
Johann Kerbrat, GM and SVP of Robinhood Crypto, emphasized the company’s mission: “Crypto was built by engineers for engineers, and has not been accessible to most people. We’re onboarding the world to crypto by making it as easy to use as possible—with the goal of bringing powerful tools into one intuitive platform.”
Initially, these stock tokens will be issued on the Arbitrum network. Looking ahead, Robinhood plans to facilitate tokenized stocks through its own proprietary Layer 2 blockchain, which is currently under development and based on Arbitrum technology. This dedicated Robinhood blockchain will be optimized for tokenized real-world assets, engineered to support continuous 24/7 trading, seamless asset bridging, and self-custody options.
Introduction of Perpetual Futures
Robinhood is also rolling out crypto perpetual futures in the EU, offering eligible customers access to this class of derivatives. These products provide continuous exposure and up to 3x leverage, with a full rollout to eligible customers anticipated by the end of summer. The platform has designed an intuitive interface for perpetuals trading, simplifying controls for position sizing and margin management. Orders for these perpetual futures will be routed through Bitstamp’s perpetual futures exchange.
This launch marks a crucial step in providing advanced trading tools to active traders globally within an accessible platform.
Crypto Staking Expands to US Customers
Crypto staking is now available to eligible US customers, beginning with Ethereum and Solana. Through Robinhood’s user-friendly interface, users can participate in these blockchain ecosystems and potentially earn competitive reward rates by contributing to network operations. Crypto staking is already available to all Robinhood customers in the EU and EEA.
Expanded Product Suite and Advanced Features
Beyond these core offerings, Robinhood has introduced a suite of new products designed to enhance the crypto trading experience:
- Instant Boost on Crypto Deposits: For a limited period, US and EU investors can transfer crypto into their Robinhood accounts and receive a 1% deposit boost. This boost has the potential to double to 2% if total platform deposits reach a $500 million goal.
- Crypto Credit Card Rewards: Coming this fall, US customers using the Robinhood Gold Credit Card will be able to automatically convert their cashback rewards from purchases into crypto.
- Cortex for Crypto: Robinhood’s US-based AI-powered investing assistant, Cortex, will extend its capabilities to crypto later this year. Robinhood Gold members will gain access to curated insights, trends, and event-driven market analysis directly on each token’s detail page, designed to aid in understanding real-time price movements and market shifts.
- Smart Exchange Routing: This feature evaluates multiple partner exchanges to route orders for the best available price. Soon, orders placed via Smart Exchange Routing will qualify for fee tiers, allowing for lower rates based on trailing 30-day trading volume. API support is also planned.
- Tax Lots: US customers now have the ability to view and strategically sell specific tax lots for their crypto trades.
- Advanced Charts: Advanced charting functionalities from Robinhood Legend will be introduced to mobile, starting with equities and expanding to crypto in August.
